Why “Some Days are Tuesdays’

Another morning staring at my computer screen, cooling coffee in a mug, trying to figure out what today holds. Or maybe what the day should hold – picking tasks from an ever-present to-do list for both work and personal things. I look at my calendar and realize it’s just another Tuesday.

Just Another Tuesday

Often every single day feels like the day before. Get up, get dressed for work, make a cup of coffee, login to my computer, and look at my calendar. I hold the warm mug in both hands to allow the warmth to ease some of the pain in my fingers that I wake up with every day. I have a heating pad already going to relieve some of the constant back pain.

Then I go through my to-do list, check emails, note when today’s meetings are, and brace myself for whatever today is going to throw at me. Because more often than not, today is going to be unkind at some point. Not “omg, the world is ending” bad, just some glitch somewhere in the day.

The thing to notice here is that there’s something important in realizing that at this stage in my life, “just another Tuesday” is actually a good thing. Because of the fact that it isn’t especially bad, it can be just okay. Kind of a “no news is good news” mindset, I think.

Some days I fight. Some days I just exist. Both count.

Tuesday can be either of those.

This blog is called “Some Days are Tuesdays” because some posts will be about the hard days when I fight to survive. Other posts will be about the days when I just exist to make it to the next day. This is my way of making it through all of this and hopefully helping someone else make it, too.

Today (actually a Saturday) definitely felt like a Tuesday when I woke up. I had a breakdown last night full of lots of tears and way too much Mildred. My eyes were so tired from crying and poor sleep that my comfort activities felt very UN-comfortable. Today, I refused to let it break me. I chose to fight. What did that look like? I turned on upbeat music and started out small by picking up just a few little things around the house. My eyes are still exhausted. But I am here – making it through to another Tuesday. That matters.
